Develop a Passion to Become a Police Officer

One trick to successfully becoming a police officer is to show and convince the hiring board that you have had a life-long passion to become an officer of the law. Why would they look for such a person, you might ask? It's really quite simple; training new officers is a lengthy and costly process. When the police department hires a new cadet, they are making a significant investment and plan on having this person stick around for at least the next 5-10 years, hopefully, the full 25-30 (the amount required for a full pension/retirement plan). One way that the police hiring board will try and decipher whether or not you really are passionate about becomming a cop is by asking the people closest to you (family members, friends, relatives, even coworkers) how long you have wanted to be a police officer for, whether or not you are a party animal, and why they think you would be a good fit.
